It was not a great way to start the morning. I was making my coffee and evaluating the best place to run and cover when the house started shaking. But ended up drinking it peacefully with no rattling.

The stress of the earthquake alert on Wednesday morning — it was like an extra shot of espresso in an Americano leaving me with extra jitters.

Hi Susan, thank you for this. I can taste, hear and feel all the details in your writing!

I, too, am living in a glitchy post-menopausal body, eating virtually the same breakfast (extra egg white and all, lol), except swap the coffee for Yerba Mate tea.

I’ve been doing all the things… more protein and Pilates, meditation and movement, supplements and sleep… with the needle stuck. It’s not even so much about weight. It’s more about how I feel from the inside out.

it’s ironic, because I’ve been teaching yoga for over 30 years, practicing for decades how to find stillness. I do eventually find it, usually at the end of a yoga practice. Perhaps that’s why I continue to show up again and again, for those elusive, sweet moments when I slip between the cracks of my everyday mind/body experience and truly settle into deep stillness.

P.S. My husband and I are traveling to Northern CA for the first time this summer and hope the earth will stay solid under our feet!
